William A. MacDonnell, D.D.S.
Who is Dr. MacDonnell?
Dr. William “Bill” MacDonnell is a dentist anesthesiologist. He is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Dentistry and completed his residency in anesthesiology and a fellowship in NeuroAnesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. MacDonnell’s patient population includes all types of patients – especially those who are medically compromised and dental phobic. According to the American Dental Association (ADA) more than 50 million Americans are afraid of the dentist.
Dr. Bill has been a member of the UCONN School of Dental Medicine and Medicine faculty since 1978. He continues to lecture and teach conscious sedation, local anesthesia and medical emergencies. He was an assistant professor of anesthesiology at the University of Connecticut Health Center and served as a staff anesthesiologist at the John Dempsey Hospital before entering private practice. He is a clinical faculty member of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. LTC MacDonnell is retired from the US Army Reserves Dental Corps.
Dr. MacDonnell is Past President of the Connecticut State Dental Association (CSDA) and the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists (ASDA). He has been a member of the CSDA House of Delegates and the ADA House of Delegates. He chaired the CSDA Annual Meeting for several years. He has served on numerous Councils and Committees of the CSDA and ADA.
Dr. MacDonnell is a Board member of Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford. He is a past Board member of the Bushnell Park Foundation.
Honors bestowed upon Dr. MacDonnell include: The Marion Falls Award for Leadership at Georgetown University; Anesthesia Award of Merit of the Horace Wells Club; the Daniel Lynch Award from the Dental Society of Greater Waterbury; the Leonard Monheim Distinguished Award of the ASDA; Horace Hayden Award CSDA; and the Distinguished Service Award Hartford Dental Society.
